Dr. Hockenberry Removes Needle & Thread from Cat

This poor kitty needed surgery following ingestion of a thread with needle attached. Surgery was performed by Dr. Hockenberry, and the prognosis for recovery is good. String-like objects (thread, yarn, cords) and cats do not mix! Because of the coarse rear-facing hairs on a cat’s tongue, if a string-like object gets too far back on the tongue, the cat cannot remove it and is sadly forced to swallow the length of object. In this case a needle was also attached. Once in the intestines, the object frequently gets tethered at one end resulting in perforation (holes) in the intestines.
